So this post is for Dodd or anyone else with thoughts or input on this.
So what are your favorite specs for lines such as length and weight line. Specifically for Precision Flying or Old School tricks. I know in your DVD you stated that most flying was done on 100' lines. What about weight of line used
I like the wind window I get with my 100' lines that came with my New Jam vs. the shorter 80's I also have.
Would it work to fly 90# and even possibly 50# lines in the 100' length and still have good performance or do you go shorter in the lower winds
Specifically I have my Techno on the way and I also ordered a Desire UL to play with cuz I keep getting shut out by low winds. I'd like to extend my low-wind range with the Techno and the upper range of the Desire.....
So now I'll have a New Jam, Techno And Desire UL - The JAM family EH |

im pretty sure he states in the end of the DVD the lines are 100lb 100ft spectra line in 6-8mph winds mostly.
personally i dont go pass 75ft in normal winds, for freestyling in 5mph-ish winds i go around 65ft.. for precision flying or practicing my corning in higher winds(12+) i fly with my longest lines which is only about 85ft. 100ft is very long for me personally but great for ballet/precision cause it gives you a huge window. as for weight i usually stick to 100lb give or take(80lb-150lb) for UL flying i fly at 50ft-50lb. and my 65ft lines are 80lb. _________________ http://community.webshots.com/user/ed_diaz1497 |

I believe it varies for each flier.
What I like, you may not
For the past 10 years or more I have been flying 80#x80 and #150x100'
For light wind flying and short field flying I have both in 40'and 50' lengths.
I will try long lines again, and also we have some new kites comming which require very short lengths and lighter weight lines.
More on that.
Just experiment to see what is best for you.

Thanks for the input. Will try more and see what works for me. For now I have the 150#/100ft. that comes with my kites plus the 80#/80 ft. that'll come with my Desire and I picked up a set of 90#/85 ft. this weekend at a shop and am thinking that set may get alot of use with the winds we get here. Will probably get a set of 50#/maybe 60 ft. and try those next.
Thanks again |
