| The other day after seeing my 7 year old grand daughters report card I decided to buy a kite for her. Thats how I stumbled across a video of Egan Davis flying a stunt kite. Well it's on now, on a whim I bought myself a Nexus (my grand daughter is flying a diamond) anyway I'm having alot of fun but unfortunitly we have had little to no wind, thats Louisiana summers for you, lot's of heat and humidity but little wind. But dispite that fact I have had the kite up a few times, to the Nexus's credit it can take a licking! But here is the deal, I've ordered a Desire UL so I can get some flight time in, and again on a whim I ordered the French Connection at the same time. Keep in mind I have no real idea what I'm doing. Can the Desire take the punishment a beginner will be dishing out? What about the French Connection? It's my thought to stay with the Nexus until I get a little more air time in before trying out my French Connection. If y'all have any suggestions I'm open. I did pick up Dodd Gross's Flight School with my Nexus and thats been a huge help. I'm not sure I would have gotten off the ground without it. |

Also you may want to check out http://redstickkiters.mslogic.net/
that is the local flying club. Joe has been very helpful and they usually have a local fly once a month. I only have made it to one and it was raining. But was still alot of fun.

Welcome!
Most UL's are not built to take a beating, but if you're flying them in low enough wind to really need a UL, then the crashes aren't as violent. I have a Desire UL and I love it. It takes a slightly different technique/finese than non UL's, but it's a good kite. I have had my share of ungraceful, unexpected landings, and it has held up... but try to keep in mind to move towards the kite to decrease the force of the crash.
The other NT kites I've owned (Pyro, Big Bang, Techno) have all been very solid fliers and crash tolerant. As NT has increased the framing rods, they've increased the "whackability" of the kites. I think you'll be pleased with the two kites.
