I am new to kite flying and have a New Jam. I crashed very badly and I need to replace the lower leading edge spar and the lower spreader ferrule attached to the spine.
Can I replace the two piece leading edges with a single piece of .230 carbon or should I stay with the two piece as it is? Also is there somewhere I can get a drawing/image of the kite and all the parts and measurements.
I have looked online and am confused by the various carbon, pultruded carbon and fiberglass rods/spars available.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

The New Jam uses Avia Sport .230 tubes. These are pultruded carbon, but higher quality than a generic pultruded carbon. You could use a 1 peice rod, bit you wouldn't be able to break down your leading edges if you needed to (as a side note: I keep my leading edges assembled on all of my kites except for my Firestorm- the leading edge is 7 ft long on that one!). Also, it's a pretty long rod- drives up the price on shipping.

I'm not sure which version of the New Jam you have- I have an older one with uneven leading edge spars, the newer version has leading edge spars that are the same size (so the kite breaks down to half its size- excellent for travel and makes spar replacement easier). Write an email to info@newtechkites.com and ask about replacement parts. Might be easier than buying two rods, fitting a ferrule, end cap and nock, and make sure it's identical in effective length to the other leading edge (from the end of the end cap to the inside of the notch in the nock).

Just my openion, your mileage may vary...

The simple answer is "No", because (AFAIK) you can't buy Avia .230 tubes that long.

Thanks to everyone for responding. Seems my best bet is to make up a new leading edge. Looks like I am going to learn a lot more than I thought I would have to.
