Family Day Kite Festival is a free, family-friendly event for San Francisco Bay Area families. Beautiful kites will be flown high above the Marina Green on the northern shoreline of San Francisco Bay.
In recognition of Family Day Kite Festival, Mayor Gavin Newsom, has proclaimed Sunday October 1st 2006 as:
Family Day in San Francisco
Event Highlights:
• Contests, kite-making and roving celebrity judges.
• Professional kite-flying of high-tech and exotic kites.
• Kid attractions include monster inflatable booths, funny rides and clowns.
• Food and non-alcoholic beverage booths located throughout the festival.
Date: Sunday, October 1, 2006
Hours of Event: 12 noon - 5 p.m.
Contests will be held and prizes awarded in six categories:
• Funniest
• Biggest
• Smallest
• Most High-Tech
• Most Extreme
• Most Beautiful
Location: Family Day Kite Festival will be held on the Marina Green, San Francisco’s visually stunning park facing San Francisco Bay just east of the Golden Gate Bridge. This is a beautiful, open and well-established kite flying area with steady breezes, easy access, public transportation and free parking.
Directions: Marina Green expands east and west from the corner of Fillmore Street and Marina Boulevard on San Francisco’s picturesque northern shoreline.
Transportation: the Marina Green is served by SF Muni bus service (415)673-6864
Parking: there are 600+ free parking spaces immediately adjacent to the Marina Green and another 500 available 1/4 mile away on Crissy Field.
